HSBC Names New Swiss Private Bank CEO

The new CEO at the private bank has worked in Swiss and international wealth management for more than three decades.

HSBC has appointed Alfonso Gómez (main picture) as chief executive of its Swiss private bank HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) SA) and country head of Switzerland, effective 27 April.

Gómez, who brings more than 30 years’ experience in Swiss and international wealth management, will be joining from BBVA Switzerland, where he has served as CEO for more than 12 years. During his career, he has held senior positions in New York, London, Madrid and Zurich, including director of global private banking, head of private banking for Spain and Portugal, and UK country manager at BBVA. He has also held senior positions in corporate banking and trade finance. Based in Geneva, he will report to Ida Liu, CEO of HSBC Private Bank.

Gómez will be succeeding Daniel Calado, who served as ad interim chief executive. Calado will return to his position as chief financial officer of HSBC Private Bank Switzerland and EMEA, as well as being a member of the executive committee.

Liu said Gómez’s “extensive Swiss experience, strong leadership track record and commitment to client excellence” position him well to lead the business.
