Hedge funds, as measured by the Dow Jones Credit Suisse Core Hedge Fund Index, were down 0.47 per cent in October. For the year to 30 October the index saw a positive return of 2.03 per cent.

Of the seven component strategies that make up the index, three - convertible arbitrage, emerging markets and event driven - reported positive results of between 0.75 per cent and 0.48 per cent for the month. Managed futures strategies posted the largest loss at -3.84 per cent for the month and -5.67 per cent for the year-to-date.

The index seeks to measure the performance of liquid hedge fund structures, including managed accounts, using information from multiple managed account platforms.
