A Swiss-based web flight travel service called LunaJets has been launched to offer travellers the chance to buy flights on private jets at a significant price discount.

The service enables travellers to purchase empty legs – a term meaning private jets returning home empty – within Europe, Middle East, Russia and US for as lows as 80 per cent off a full private jet fare, LunaJets said.

The business model is designed to provide premium travellers, such as business travellers, a way to cut out the inconvenience of overcrowded airports, lengthy check-in times and long delays on commercial airlines.

The service operates a fixed pricing structure for empty legs. Prices are calculated on the duration of the flight and independent of cabin size. Prices start at €890, offering corporations the chance to make substantial savings on corporate travel expenditure.

The move comes at a time when high net worth individuals have already been offered options such as fractional ownership of private jets.
