French Giant Names New Head Of Private Banking Amid Management Overhaul

The Paris-listed banking group Crédit Agricole has appointed Alain Massiera as its new head of private banking, amid a raft of management changes across several of its business lines.

Massiera, whose appointment takes effect today, was previously deputy chief executive of Crédit Agricole’s corporate and investment banking arm, overseeing its structured finance, fixed income and equity brokerage and derivatives operations. He had held this role since October 2007, prior to which he CEO of Crédit Agricole Indosuez (Switzerland).

Also announced was the retirement of Christian Duvillet as CEO of LCL (Le Crédit Lyonnais), one of the group’s subsidiary banks which offers wealth management among its services. Duvillet will be replaced by Yves Nanquette, currently CEO of the regional bank Crédit Agricole d’Ille-et-Vilaine. This change takes effect at the start of next year.

The majority of the appointments announced were however within Crédit Agricole CIB. Among these was the retirement of CEO Patrick Valroff, who is today succeeded by Jean-Yves Hocher. Since March of this year Hocher has been Crédit Agricole's deputy CEO in charge of specialist business lines such as corporate and investment banking, private banking and real estate, and will continue to hold these responsibilities in his new role.

Also within Crédit Agricole CIB, Pierre Cambefort, deputy CEO since the start of September, has been given responsibility for coverage, investment banking, corporate banking and the international network, while Francis Canterini, who has been the group’s head of risk management and permanent control for almost two years, has been appointed deputy CEO in charge of support functions.
