Four Partner Promotions At UK Law Firm, Including Private Client, Tax

UK-based law firm Boodle Hatfield has promoted four solicitors to partner in its London office, with effect from 1 May 2013. Hayden Bailey will become partner in the private client and tax division, Tim Maxwell in litigation, and Christina Christou and Graham Winkley in property.

Bailey has an extensive range of private client and tax planning experience, with particular expertise in advising on UK capital taxation strategy, wills, trusts, life assurance-based products, partnerships, compensation trusts and family businesses, the firm said. He also advises non-UK domicilaries on their UK taxation exposure and asset holding structures.

Maxwell has wide experience in the commercial sector, with a particular focus on art-related financial and commercial disputes. His clients include high net worth individuals, dealers, galleries and other organisations involved in the London and international art market.

He has advised on high-profile cases in the art market, including a case concerning a painting said to be by Titian, and is currently advising a private individual in a dispute with a leading auction house concerning a Caravaggio piece.

Christou’s practice in property includes investment sales and purchases, property finance, advising on landlord and tenant matters and general asset management work. She recently advised an individual on a £30 million loan for the acquisition and refurbishment of a listed private house in North London, and the sale of the Arena Retail Park in Haringey.

Winkley, meanwhile, has wide experience in both residential and commercial property, including acting for landed estates, property trading companies and developers.  His work primarily focuses on high-value acquisitions and disposals of residential and commercial property, leasehold enfranchisement and the ongoing management of mixed-use buildings.

He has dealt with prime properties in the prestigious medical districts of Harley Street and Wimpole Street, and has recently advised on the Howard de Walden Estate in connection with the enfranchisement of houses.

Boodle Hatfield will have a total of 32 partners once the appointments take effect. Its main areas of focus are property, private client and tax, corporate, family, litigation and employment.
