Fortis Guernsey Splits, Rebrands Private Bank

The name MeesPierson has returned to Guernsey with the launch of independent private bank MeesPierson (CI) Limited.

The bank, formerly part of the Dutch Fortis group of companies, is being established as an international brand following the Dutch government’s decision, as the key stakeholder in Fortis group, to set up independent banking and trust businesses in a strategic change to its financial services assets.

In line with this activity Fortis Guernsey is now being developed as two separate businesses, with banking operations becoming MeesPierson and fiduciary services becoming part of the Intertrust Group. All Guernsey banking and investment staff will work for MeesPierson; trust and fiduciary staff and the tax advisory team will work for Intertrust.

MeesPierson was launched in Guernsey on 1 May, with the launch of the trust business to follow in June.
