Former Swedish Finance Minister To Advise East Capital

The former finance ministry chief had been in office in the years spanning the global financial crisis.
A former Swedish finance minister, who served in the years spanning the global financial crash, has taken up an advisor job at emerging and frontier markets specialist East Capital.
Anders Borg will provide advisory services and insights to East Capital’s investment teams as well as support on strategic issues. He also joins the company’s advisory committee where he will take part in the work of analysing the global economic outlook, with a focus on macro-economic, political, and social trends, East Capital said in a statement yesterday.
The move appears a logical one for the Swede, as East Capital was founded in the country (1997) and now has offices in Dubai, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Moscow, Oslo, Stockholm and Tallinn. It oversees about $3.5 billion of assets.
Borg served as Sweden's Minister for Finance from 2006 to 2014, winning plaudits for navigating Sweden through the global financial crisis. During his time as Minister for Finance, Anders Borg was president of the Ecofin Council and served in the governing institutions of the IMF and the World Bank. He has also chaired the World Economic Forum’s initiative on the global financial system and has experience from Citi Group, ABN Amro Bank and SEB. Furthermore, he has served as an advisor on monetary policy to the Riksbank and has served on the board of directors in companies such as Kinnevik and Millicom. He serves on the board of directors in Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) and Stena International.
In the early 1990s, Borg was a political advisor to Prime Minister Carl Bildt. He studied political science, philosophy and economic history at Uppsala University and economics at Stockholm University and has been a Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
