Former Senior Barclays Executive Resurfaces At US Banking, Asset Management Group

One of the senior executives who had left Barclays earlier this year has joined the asset management arm of US-listed State Street.
A former senior manager at Barclays Wealth & Investment Management, Rory Tobin, has joined State Street Global Advisors, part of US-listed State Street, as head of European distribution.
The role is a newly-created one, SSGA said in a statement. Tobin will be based in London and reports to Mike Karpik, head of SSGA for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
At Barclays, Tobin was chief executive officer of Barclays Asset Management and global head of the investments and solutions group. His departure from that firm was announced in July and was among a number of senior exits from the UK bank.
“We have created this role to mirror investor needs and regulatory changes within the European distribution landscape,” Karpik said in the statement. “This appointment reflects our commitment to growing our distribution business to better service client needs, as well as our goal of expanding our foothold in the European institutional and intermediary markets,” he added.
Before joining Barclays, Tobin worked at BlackRock, where he was head of international iShares. Tobin started out at BlackRock as head of the global index and markets group, later becoming CEO of iShares EMEA and co-CEO of Global iShares. Tobin has also worked at JPMorgan as global co-head of European cash and equity products, and at Goldman Sachs as head of US equities for EMEA.
