An experienced figure from the UK’s political and international defence field gives his perspective on security, geopolitics and related topics at a London conference later this month.

Jersey Finance, which acts as a mouthpiece for Jersey's financial industry, has a prominent figure from the world of defence, Lord (George) Robertson (main picture) to deliver a keynote address to its 22 September conference in London. 

This year, the half-day conference, under the theme of “Trusted Shores,” will explore why trust, substance and resilience matter more than ever against a backdrop of geopolitical uncertainty, and how jurisdictions such as Jersey are helping private wealth professionals navigate an increasingly complex global environment.

Lord Robertson GCMG served as Secretary General of NATO and is one of only three Britons to ever hold the post. Before the NATO appointment, he was Secretary of State for Defence of the UK, a period covering major changes in defence, security and international relations. After leaving public office he served in a range of business, political and advisory roles.

In a change of emphasis, the noted documentary maker, writer and broadcaster Louis Theroux (pictured below), will give a fireside chat where he will offer a perspective on connection, credibility and building trust in an increasingly divided world.

Looking at areas such as trust and resilience at a time of heightened global instability and change chimes with how, as WealthBriefing analysed earlier in the year, geopolitics is now an increasingly important topic for private client advisors and wealth managers to understand. 

Among recent alterations to the line-up, Jersey Finance said its first panel, “Mind the Gap? Do the NextGen Trust the Current Generation... and Vice Versa?”, will be moderated by Clare Flanagan, partner at Capital Generation Partners. A second panel session entitled “Advising in an Age of Uncertainty,” will take the format of a live recorded podcast. Moderated by Jersey Finance’s director – UK, Robert Moore, the session will look at how uncertainty has morphed from a predominantly market factor to a far more nuanced force driven by broader issues such as geopolitics, regulation and family dynamics. The panel will examine how these changes inform trust in family relationships and whether that changes what private client advisors' modus operandi.
