Former Everton Manager Starts Legal Proceedings Against Financial Planner

The former Everton boss is suing a financial planner over money paid into a pension fund during his time at the club.
Former Glasgow Rangers and Everton Football Club manager Walter
Smith is suing a financial planner over money paid into a pension
fund during his time as Everton boss, according to the Daily
Record.
Smith started legal proceedings against financial planner
Neil Caisley at the Court of Session on 4 October.
The former Everton manager was in charge of the club between June
1998 and March 2002.
According to the newswire, Caisley described himself on his
LinkedIn page as a financial advisor, and listed ex-footballers
and managers as his clients. The Daily Record said the
site was altered last week to remove the names of individuals
including Smith. Caisley’s LinkedIn page has now been
deleted.
The ex-stars included strikers Duncan Ferguson, Andrei
Kanchelskis, Ian Wright and Paulo Wanchope, as well as ex-England
and Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle. Former Liverpool manager
Gerard Houllier and Stoke City gaffer Mark Hughes were also among
his clients.
The Daily Record said that Smith declined to comment on
the case, which was listed last week at the court in Edinburgh.
The newspaper also said it could not get a comment from Caisley,
or the legal firm that brought the case to court, Drummond
Miller.
This is not the first person in the footballing world to have
issues with a financial advisor. This publication reported in
June that former
Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer reached a settlement in his
claim for negligent advice against an independent financial
advisor.
