Family trust takes recovery message to the airwaves

Californian achieves "same broadcast demographics" as big-name foundations. Artist, mother and recovering alcoholic Gillian Ellenby is out to prove that you don't need millions in the bank to be an effective philanthropist. One person, she insists, can make a difference.
"I decided to put my money where my heart is," says Ellenby. "And my heart is in letting the public know that real recovery from addiction is possible." To get that message out Ellenby is funding four programs of the nationally syndicated daily radio show "Life, Love & Health."
The San Francisco-based radio show has never undertaken a series funded by an individual's philanthropy before. But "Gillian is so passionate and persuasive, we all got swept up in her vision and mission," says "Life, Love & Health" executive producer Christopher Springmann.
Ellenby has "achieved the same broadcast demographics plus reach-and-frequency as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the California Wellness Foundation, and AARP," says Springmann.
Ellenby says: "I was determined to make the best use of my limited resources. I knew I made the right decision when listeners started calling, asking for more information."
"Life, Love & Health" is broadcast daily on XM Satellite Radio, ABC Talk, Fox Radio, National Public Radio, Voice of America and many distributors. -FWR
