EXCLUSIVE: BNP Paribas WM Continues To Focus On German Market

Vincent Lecomte, CEO of Paris-based BNP Paribas Wealth Management, talks to this new service in Paris about the importance of the German wealth market for the firm, as well as opportunities in Europe and Asia.

After BNP Paribas finalised its acquisition of HSBC Private Bank’s activities in Germany last year, Vincent Lecomte (pictured), CEO of BNP Paribas Wealth Management, told this news service how the acquisition has reinforced their presence in Germany but he plans to do a lot more in the country.

Germany is a key market for BNP Paribas Wealth Management, offering strong growth potential for wealth management activities, most notably with the German SMEs and the German entrepreneurs and families client segments. “This acquisition was an important step for BNP Paribas Wealth Management as it enables us to more than double our size in Germany with 50 billion of assets under management, and to become the 4th private bank in this market” Lecomte said. “The acquisition is a significant development milestone, but we want to invest further and expect to do a lot more in the country,” he added.

“With a presence in 10 German cities, such as Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich, we are capitalising on the group’s strong presence in the country,” Lecomte continued.

“France and Italy are also top markets for us,” Lecomte said. They have been in Italy for decades and he sees good opportunities in the northern part of Italy, in particular. Belgium and Netherlands are important markets for Lecomte as well.

“We have enjoyed significant growth too in the Asian market and 2026 has been a record year,” Lecomte continued. “Taiwan’s economy is developing well and we have increased our presence in Thailand. We’ve been serving Asian entrepreneurs and families for decades and we plan to continue developing our business in the region”

BNP Paribas has been present in Asia for a long time, for instance, in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, among other places. “It’s important to be closer to clients and we are preparing our 2030 plan,” he added.

He sees the most opportunities in Europe and Asia. Asia now accounts for over 20 per cent of total assets under management (AuM) of BNP Paribas Wealth Management

Edmund Shing at BNP Paribas Wealth Management also told this news service in Paris how he is positive about the outlook for tech-driven emerging market, 70 per cent of which are located in Asia, and Japanese equities. He is overweight there. “We are still very bullish on emerging markets, mostly in tech. In particular, we like South Korea, Taiwan, Latin America, as well as central and eastern European countries like Poland,” he told this news service in an interview. See more here.
