Christian Siva-Jothy, the former global head of foreign exchange and proprietary trading at Goldman Sachs, has joined Fulcrum Asset Management, a wealth management and hedge fund business set up by the former chief economist of the American bank, Gavyn Davies, according to report in the UK-based Financial News. Mr Siva-Jothy, who left Goldman’s at the end of last year, will run Fulcrum’s hedge fund business, which started trading in May as Semper Macro and opened to third-party investors in June. Fulcrum’s wealth management operations is run by Andrew Stevens, also formerly with Goldman Sachs. Fulcrum is registered in Grand Cayman and has been reported to manage around £1 billion ($1.7 billion) in clients’ assets, although this has not been verified. Mr Davies has been very busy after he resigned his chairmanship of the BBC last year following an inquiry into the broadcaster’s coverage of the run-up to the war in Iraq. He is also a founding partner of Prisma Capital Partners, US-based hedge fund, which Mr Davies set up with Girish Reddy, who was head of equity derivatives at Goldman’s. Mr Davies, who has strong links with the ruling Labour party in the UK, has also launched a private equity group called Active Private Equity, which has a number of holdings in London’s restaurants and clubs.
