Ex-Goldman Boss in India JV Talks

Major international banking groups including Standard Chartered, BNP Paribas and Barclays are in joint venture talks with Indian Future Group to help them sell consumer loans and other financial products, according to the Times of India. Future Group, is a financial services firm, set up by the former joint head of Goldman Sachs private wealth management division for Europe, Sameer Sain, and the ex-chief executive of Coca Cola in India, Sanjiv Gupta. The group is backed by the Indian retail group, Pantaloon. The banks are aiming to utilise Future's wide presence to expand their operations in face of the Reserve Bank of India's reluctance to grant them branch licenses, the paper said. 'We are in talks with several banks for a tie-up. At this point, we haven't tied up with any,' said Sameer Sain, managing director of Future Capital Holdings.
