EFG International Expands Swiss Footprint, Opens Berne Office

The bank, which is listed in Zurich and operates in multiple jurisdictions, has opened a new office in the centre of the Swiss town, adding to its market presence in the country.

EFG International has opened a new office in Berne and its operations start today. The office is sited in a prime location at Marktgasse 37 in the heart of the city.

The firm has appointed Sandro Steiner and Dominik Bühler as the client relationship officers (CROs) to lead the office, effective 1 September. They will report to Manuel Blanco, head of private banking Gstaad & Greater Berne Area, EFG said in a statement.

Steiner has more than three decades of experience in the private banking industry. He joined EFG from UBS, where he served as head for Thun and the private wealth Berner Oberland maket from 2023 to 2026. Prior to that, he spent more than seven years at independent asset managers and a total of 28 years at UBS in global wealth management positions in Switzerland and abroad. He will be covering Berner Oberland and Thun areas.

Bühler brings 30 years of industry experience. He also joined EFG from UBS, where he served as senior client advisor, executives and entrepreneurs for Berne. He has spent his entire career to date in senior positions at UBS, which he joined in 1991. He will oversee the Seeland and Biel market.

In Berne, EFG said it wants to serve global high net worth and ultra-HNW clients domiciled in Switzerland and in international markets where EFG has experience and a track record. The new Berne team will also work closely with the Gstaad team, it said.

“The opening of our new office in Berne is a natural next step in the region following the success of Gstaad. I am very much looking forward to working with Sandro Steiner and Dominik Bühler,” Blanco said.

Franco Polloni is head of Switzerland and Italy region at the bank.

EFG International reported half-year 2026 profits and assets data here in July.
