East Capital Goes The ESG Route With New Fund

The investments house has launched an emerging markets fund with a focus on environmental, social and governance issues.

East Capital, the specialist emerging and frontier markets asset manager, has launched the Sustainable Emerging Markets fund, coinciding with the firm’s 20th anniversary.

A Luxembourg-domiciled UCITS fund, the portfolio is managed by Peter Elam Håkansson, and backed by portfolio managers Adrian Pop and Francois Perrin in Hong Kong and head of corporate governance and sustainability Louise Hedberg.

The fund will invest in companies characterised by high growth potential and strong ESG profiles, with an overweight position in themes relating to domestic growth and the emerging consumer. The strategy will also seek investments in renewable energy and other fast-growing clean technologies. Off-benchmark exposure includes selective allocation to frontier markets and China A-Shares (Chinese companies listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen).

The fund is benchmarked against the MSCI Emerging Market Index and launches on June 30 with capital provided by Nordic institutional investors. It will be available for both institutional and retail investors in most European countries from start.
