Doubts on FSA Fight Against Insider Dealing - CISI Survey

A recent Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment survey shows that a majority of financial services practitioners believe the FSA is losing the fight against insider dealing.

According to the survey results, 60 per cent feel that the FSA is failing to make serious inroads regarding the crime. But 40 per cent think that the FSA is winning against those who profit from confidential information.

“The FSA has put down a marker to insider traders, but the ones they have caught so far have been arrogant and naive. There are more out there who are more sophisticated and will be far harder to catch,” one participant in the survey said.

Recently the FSA has charged seven people with 13 offences in relation to a conspiracy concerning inside information at two major investment banks.
