DIARY: African Millionaires Rank Their Favourite Luxury Brands

No doubt with a little help from 007 aficionados, Aston Martin was among the top luxury car brands for high net worth Africans this year.
For those with a taste for the finer things in life – and the money to satisfy it – Louis Vuitton has been the go-to luxury brand and Porsche the four-wheeler of choice in 2015, according to a panel of African millionaires interviewed by New World Wealth.
Fast cars were a hot asset for this demographic, who ranked Ferrari as the number two luxury car brand and James Bond's signature ride Aston Martin in third place.
As for overall luxury ratings, men's fashion house Zegna came in second, followed by its competitor Paul Smith, according to New World Wealth, which interviews over 800 global high net worth individuals every year.
In other trends among Africa's rich, the golden pendulum has swung back to handmade, mechanical watches. The country's male millionaires are snapping up these self-winding or manual winding status symbols, some of which take over a year to make and start from a base price of around $10,000.
Patek Philippe was the best selling such “super-luxury” watchmaker, ranked by African revenue in 2015, followed by Franck Muller and Audemars Piguet respectively. Notably, these brands are all from Switzterland, often lauded as the land of the greatest timepieces.
