Frankfurter
Leben Gruppe, a consolidator of life insurance portfolios, is
acquiring Athora
Deutschland, including its subsidiaries, in its seventh
transaction. Employees will also transition as part of this
change and continue to service Athora portfolios. German-based
asset manager DWS
Group will support the transaction as a long-term financing
partner and collaborate with Frankfurter Leben, the firm said in
a statement.
As a financing partner, DWS will invest a low- to mid-double-digit million euro amount in a Restricted Tier 1 (RT1) capital instrument of Frankfurter Leben Gruppe, providing hybrid capital.
Completion of the transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and is expected in mid-2027. Further financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition of Athora Deutschland, a European savings and retirement services group, will strengthen the position of Frankfurter Leben Gruppe, founded in 2015, as a specialist in portfolio management and contribute to market consolidation, the firm said.
For DWS, the partnership with Frankfurter Leben strengthens two attractive growth areas: institutional insurance clients and alternative investments. “We see run-off platforms as a growth area in which we can contribute our expertise in a targeted way. We are therefore pleased to support Frankfurter Leben, an experienced partner, in the consolidation of the German life insurance market,” said Dr Stefan Hoops, CEO of DWS Group.
"This strengthens our institutional insurance business and expands our presence in the growing market for insurance investments. At the same time, our investment expertise can help deliver enhanced outcomes for Frankfurter Leben’s clients,” Hoops said.
