Credit Suisse Supports Indonesian Artist At SAM

Credit Suisse is sponsoring the first comprehensive exhibition of Indonesian artist FX Harsono at the Singapore Art Museum in support of the latter's goal to develop living artists in Singapore and the rest of the region.

This will be first time a survey of Harsono's artwork, which range from 1975 to 2009, will be presented. The artist is known for playing a pivotal role in the development of contemporary art in Indonesia. The exhibit, titled "FX Harsono: Testimonies" traces the shifts in the artists strategies over the years, including politically-charged works that critique the Indonesian regime in the 90s and interpretations of his family's history.

"This sponsorship is part of the bank's long term support of SAM under its banner of the Credit Suisse Innovation in Art series since 2007. Sponsorship of the arts and culture has a long tradition at Credit Suisse and is of prime importance as an integral part of the bank's corporate philosophy," said Francois Monnet, the head of private banking for Southeast Asia and Australasia, in a statement.

"Visual arts is one of our key sponsorship focuses and we are pleased to be involved in the celebration of such an established artist like Harsono."

The exhibit will remain at the Singapore Art Museum from 4 March to 9 May 2010.
