Credit Suisse Appoints New CEO, Vice-Chairman In France

Credit Suisse has named François Roussely as the new vice chairman of its European business and announced that his role as chief executive officer of the bank in France will be taken up by former ABN Amro regional CEO Pierre Fleuriot.

Messrs Roussely and Fleuriot, both based in Paris, will report to Eric Varvel, CEO of the EMEA region, the firm said in a statement.

Mr Roussely will continue to work with some of the firm’s most important French clients. He will also assume the global lead for advising Credit Suisse’s investment banking clients in the nuclear energy sector, working with Jim Amine and Luigi de Vecchi, co-heads of the global investment banking department, and Jamie Welch, global head of energy for the investment banking department.

As CEO of France, Mr Fleuriot will be responsible for the private banking, investment banking and asset management divisions. Most recently Mr Fleuriot spent a decade with the ABN Amro Group in a variety of senior roles, including CEO of ABN France and CEO of Banque Neuflize OBC, a private banking subsidiary.

“These two senior appointments demonstrate our ongoing commitment to investing in France, one of our core European markets. Under Francois' leadership, we have increased our profile and market share in France, as well as attracted some very talented bankers to the platform to work with our clients," said Mr Varvel.

“We look forward to welcoming Pierre to the team. We are confident that Pierre will continue to build on the momentum of our business in France,” he added.

Mr Roussely joined Credit Suisse in January 2005. Prior, he was chairman and CEO of Electricité de France. Before joining EdF, he served in a variety of senior positions at the French Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of the Interior.

Before joining Credit Suisse, Mr Fleuriot was with ABN Amro Group, where he held several senior roles, including CEO of ABN France, CEO of Banque Neuflize OBC, a private banking subsidiary, and head of corporate and investment banking country coverage for EMEA.
