Coutts has named the head of its China desk at the private bank's international business in the UK.

Vivienne Ng, formerly of Credit Suisse, has been appointed to the newly created role of head of the China desk within Coutts' international business in the UK, the bank said today.

Her role is seperate from that of the overall head of China for Coutts, who is Sum, based out of Hong Kong.

At Credit Suisse (UK) she was a director for the Greater China and South East Asia team, Coutts said in a statement. Ng has over twenty years’ experience in private banking and wealth management. At Credit Suisse, she developed the firm’s private client business in the Chinese and Asian high net worth and ultra high net worth segments, with a specific focus on Greater China, Hong Kong and South East Asia.

Prior to that, she spent 18 years at UBS where she held a variety of roles in the wealth management and business banking space. She began her career at Mitsubishi Bank in Hong Kong and Swiss Bank Corporation, which then merged with UBS.

“Vivienne will further enhance the links between Coutts’ Asian and UK operations and bolster the business’s international strategy in the UK,” Coutts said.

She will be based in London and will report to Michael Mount, managing director and head of Coutts & Co’s international business, joining with immediate effect.

“With an increasing amount of wealth in the UK continuing to derive from international locations, Coutts’ International Desk is of significant importance to the business and to our clients. China is a key driver for this influx and is a key market of growth for Coutts,” Mount said.
