Colony Completes MBO At First Republic

Colony Capital has completed its investment in private bank and wealth manager First Republic Bank in connection with the management-led transaction that re-establishes First Republic as an independent financial institution.
Colony co-led a group of private investors in supporting First Republic Bank’s founding leadership team in the transaction. Terms have not been disclosed.
Colony’s founder, chairman and chief executive officer Thomas Barrack was an independent director of First Republic Bank from 2001 until June 2008.
“We have known First Republic Bank's excellent management team for many years, and we are very pleased to support them in re-establishing the bank’s independence," said Barrack.
Colony is a private investment firm focusing primarily on debt and equity investments in real estate-related assets and operating companies. It is headquartered in Los Angeles, with offices in New York, Boston, London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Beirut, Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Taipei.
