Coast increases senior staff to cope with growth

Asset Manager adds compliance, legal execs and supports non-U.S. expansion. Fund-of-hedge-funds manager Coast Asset Management has expanded its staff to support growing demand for alternative strategies in the face uncertain returns from traditional investments.

Recent hires include COO Roger Hartley (formerly with Putnam Lovell), chief compliance officer Susan Mosher (formerly with Investors Bank & Trust (now part of State Street)) and general counsel Jonathan Jacobs (formerly with Financial Risk Management).

Expansion and influence

"Coast's crucial edge is the quality, insights and experience of our people and we are fortunate to attract the world-class individuals who recently joined the firm as senior executives," says Coast's founder and CEO David Smith. "They will all play influential roles as we expand our international capabilities and develop additional investment strategies to serve Coast's growing global client base."

In another response to what it calls "increased investor interest," Coast opened an office in London office last year -- and lured Sabine Maarschalk away from ABN-Amro to take charge of its sales efforts in Europe and the Middle East.

Santa Monica, Calif.-based Coast manages around $6.7 billion for institutional and high-net-worth investors. -FWR
