Clariden Leu Bolsters NRI Offering In Singapore, Hong Kong

Clariden Leu, the Swiss private bank, has added two senior executives to its Asian non-resident Indian team.
Mohit Gupta joins as senior vice president, senior relationship manager for the Indian subcontinent and Asian NRI business. Gupta is from ING Financial Planning in Hong Kong and has 20 years of wealth management experience. He remains based in Hong Kong and is now in charge of client acquisition and managing clients throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Sadaf Behbahany joins as senior vice president, senior relationship manager for the Indian subcontinent and Asian NRI business based in Singapore. She was previously a senior associate director at Standard Chartered Private Bank, where she had worked for the last six years.
Both Gupta and Behbahany report directly to Varun Chugh, the head of Indian subcontinent and NRI Asia.
NRIs are individuals of Indian origin who are not domiciled in the country.
According to the latest Asia-Pacific World Wealth Report by Capgemini and Merrill Lynch, the amount of wealth held by high net worth Indians globally is estimated at $477 billion as of 2010. In Asia, NRIs reportedly represent around $80 billion with some $20 billion in Singapore alone. To address this market, Clariden Leu set up a new five-person NRI team in Singapore in March, followed by a three-man team in Hong Kong shortly after.
Affluent NRIs are said to be present in almost any type of global industry, be it real estate, telecommunications, information technology, banking, tourism, or insfrastructure, among many others.
