Citi Appoints Islamic Banking Head For Asia-Pacific

Citi has appointed Mudassir Amray as head of Islamic banking for the Asia Pacific region. He will take up his new post at the US bank on 1 November.

Mr Amray has been corporate bank head for Citi Bank Pakistan.  As head of Islamic banking, Mr Amray will be based in Citi’s Singapore and Kuala Lumpur offices. He will be responsible for developing Islamic Banking products for Citi's corporate and consumer franchises in the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr Amray will work with the Dubai-based global Islamic banking team in structuring and marketing these products and will report to Farhan Faruqui, corporate and commercial bank head, Asia Pacific, and also to Samad Sirohey, chief executive of global Islamic banking.

At Citi Bank Pakistan, Mr Amray held various positions including capital markets and syndications, head of fixed income and corporate branch manager at Lahore, prior to his role as corporate bank head.

Citi has reported more than $2 billion in Islamic finance transactions since it entered the sector in the mid 90s.
