Canaccord Genuity In Talks With Consortium To Sell UK Wealth Arm – Media

The report, if true, adds to a pattern of overseas buyers looking to acquire wealth management operations in the UK.
Canada’s Canaccord Genuity
is reportedly discussing the option of selling its UK wealth
management business to a consortium led by private equity firm
Centerbridge Partners.
Bloomberg, citing unnamed sources, reported on the
matter earlier this week.
Family Wealth Report contacted Canada-headquartered
Canaccord Genuity yesterday for comment and may update this
article in due course. It had not received a reply as of the time
this article went to press.
The report said it is discussing a sale to the investor group
that also includes Middle Eastern sovereign wealth fund Mubadala
Investment Co after a period of exclusive talks with buyout firms
Warburg Pincus and Clayton Dubilier & Rice lapsed. Any deal could
value the Canaccord Wealth UK unit at around £1 billion ($1.3
billion). A deal could be announced in the coming weeks.
If the story turns out to be accurate, it would represent another
example of UK wealth management operations being taken over by
overseas buyers, with notable examples in recent years including
those of Miami-headquartered Corient’s purchase of Stonehage
Fleming and Stanhope Capital, US-based Creative Planning’s
acquisition of MASECO, and US-based Nuveen’s acquisition of
Schroders.
Reports said Canaccord’s shares rose as much as 6.5 per cent to
C$14.18 in Toronto on Tuesday when the story broke. Since the
start of 2026, shares in the group are up about 22 per cent.
The newswire story said talks with Centerbridge and Mubadala
are ongoing, although they could still be delayed or falter.
Representatives for Centerbridge, Mubadala, Warburg Pincus and
CD&R declined to comment, the report said.
