Brown Shipley Continues Recruitment Drive

Continuing a run of recent hires, London-headquartered private bank Brown Shipley has appointed former Kleinwort Benson senior manager Derrick Cain as head of compliance, risk and legal.

At Kleinwort Benson, Cain had been group head of compliance. He has worked at a senior level in financial services for more than 20 years. He begins his new role on 13 February and will report to Ian Sackfield, managing director.

Cain is taking up the post because Robert Smoker, previously executive director for audit, compliance and risk management at Brown Shipley, is taking up a new role in the company, the details of which will be announced shortly, a spokesperson told this publication.

Last week, Brown Shipley appointed Julian Hardiman as head of private banking in its Manchester office for its northwestern region of the UK. Last year, Brown Shipley hired three senior private banking staff in Birmingham.

On 1 December, 2011, the firm completed the acquisition of the investment management arm of the Scottish law firm Gillespie Macandrew.
