BNY Mellon WM Hires Senior Director for Chicago, Midwest

Following its April agreement to acquire the wealth management operations of Chicago-based Talon Asset Management, BNY Mellon Wealth Management has named Steven Appell as senior director for the Chicago and Midwest market.

Appell reports to Eileen Foley, managing director of the national business sales team. When the Talon deal closes, he will work closely with Talon co-founders Terry Diamond and Alan Wilson.

Most recently Appell was a managing director at PrivateBancorp, where he was from 2008. Before that, he was director of sales, marketing and client programs for Northern Trust’s wealth management group where he worked with families and family offices with more than $100 million in assets. He has also helped more than a quarter of the Forbes 400 family offices with their investment programs, technology issues, family education and legacy planning.

BNY Mellon Wealth Management recently reshuffled its ranks to implement a long-term international expansion strategy, promoting Myriam Soto and Douglas Schaenen to newly-created positions within the firm. Soto took up the role of managing director, international wealth advisory services, while Schaenen was appointed managing director and regional head for international wealth management in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
