BNY Mellon Makes Senior Hires For Wealth Management, Asset Management

BNY Mellon has appointed James Barnyak as president of the firm’s Northwest region at its wealth management business, and Jack Malvey to the newly-created role of chief global market strategist at its asset management business.
In his new, Seattle-based role, Barnyak will lead a team of 25 and be responsible for the oversight of all client service and new business functions in the region. He reports to David Emmes, who heads up the wealth manager’s West Coast market.
Barnyak was most recently a partner at Freestone Capital Management, where he was also based in Seattle. Prior to that he worked for a number of years at Citi Smith Barney, latterly as head of the firm’s Sydney office.
Meanwhile, Malvey takes up the role of chief global market strategist at BNY Mellon Asset Management, and has also been appointed as director of the newly-formed BNY Mellon Center for Global Investment & Market Intelligence.
In this position he will oversee a team that monitors and captures investment and economic trends, and market activity. As chief strategist, he will focus on developing global investment and market knowledge platforms to provide communication and analysis across the firm's various divisions and subsidiaries. He reports to Curtis Arledge, vice chairman of BNY Mellon and chief executive of its asset management business.
Prior to BNY Mellon, Malvey was a managing director and chief global fixed income strategist at Lehman Brothers, where he chaired the investment strategy group and served on the firm's wealth management unit.
BNY Mellon has $25 trillion in assets under custody and administration and $1.17 trillion in assets under management. BNY Mellon Wealth Management has around $166 billion in private client assets.
