BMO GAM Targets ETF Growth With New Hire

Bank of Montreal’s asset management business is looking to boost sales of exchange-traded funds in the UK with the senior appointment.

BMO Global Asset Management has appointed Christine Cantrell as UK sales director of exchange-traded funds.

Cantrell joins from State Street Global Advisors, where she worked in the UK sales team for two years, responsible for the distribution of investment strategies to the UK intermediary market. Before that, she worked for ETF Securities as director of UK and Ireland sales. There, she developed client relationships with discretionary fund managers, private wealth managers and large asset managers across the UK and Ireland.

In the newly-created role, Cantrell will be based in London, responsible for targeting and developing relationships with retail and wholesale clients in the UK. She will report to Rob Thorpe, head of UK intermediary at BMO Global Asset Management.

Late last year, BMO Global Asset Management listed nine ETFs on the London Stock Exchange with a focus on income generation.

“We are very proud of our track record of developing relevant, innovative and client-focused ETFs. Christine’s extensive ETF sales experience and understanding of investors’ requirements will be invaluable in supporting the ambitious growth plans we have for the business,” said Thorpe.

BMO Global Asset Management, which operates in 14 countries, had more than £160 billion ($214 billion) in assets under management as at 31 March 2016.
