BlackRock Launches Strategic Global Bond Fund

The new fund focuses on macroeconomic opportunities in global bond markets.

BlackRock has launched a fixed income fund providing exposure to regions with attractive interest rates and supportive monetary policy.

The BlackRock Global Funds (BGF) Strategic Global Bond Fund is an actively managed multi-currency global bond fund targeting alpha via macro-driven fixed income opportunities worldwide, including rates and foreign exchange across emerging and developed markets. The fund will invest relative to its benchmark, which consists of the Barclays Global Aggregate Index (unhedged) (80 per cent) and emerging markets exposure (20 per cent).

The five-strong portfolio management team will assess portfolio risk across 4,000 risk factors.

The fund’s D share class will carry an annual management charge of 0.5 per cent, with an ongoing charge fee of 0.7 per cent. This is the fifth fund in BlackRock’s flagship global bond fund range, which has over $40 billion in assets.

“The challenges facing global bond investors are greater than ever. Highly accommodative monetary policy has artificially boosted bond markets with yields on higher quality bonds continuing to decline. However, there are opportunities for active managers to identify sources of added value by capitalising on global opportunities and macroeconomic trends," said Scott Thiel, deputy chief investment officer, fixed income at BlackRock and one of the fund’s portfolio managers.

“We hear from many investors that they want global macro, liquid strategies that can take advantage of the divergence in performance across different markets. We’ve launched this fund in response to this demand.”

The fund is available to investors in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Finland, Sweden and the UK.

BlackRock manages over $1.4 trillion in fixed income assets on behalf of clients globally.
