Bank Sarasin was the only private bank to enter the Financial Times Sustainable Banking Awards, which are to be presented late this year. The awards will be given in recognition of banks that have shown leadership and innovation in integrating social and environmental objectives into their operations. Bank Sarasin was one of 20 banks entered for the prize of Bank of the Year for sustainability. No other private bank made the list and notable absentees on the list included UBS and Credit Suisse, despite the latter bank’s efforts in the area of socially responsible investment. Other major banks on the list were HSBC, Citigroup, Barclays and ABN Amro. But smaller banks from emerging markets also made the list, including Yes Bank from India, Findesa from Nicaragua and Exim Bank from Tanzania. The awards will be presented in London on June 12.
