Baker & McKenzie Boosts Singapore Tax, Wealth Practice

Baker & McKenzie has strengthened its Singapore tax and wealth management practice by relocating one of its top partners to become the new head.

On 1 January 2014, Eugene Lim will relocate from Hong Kong to Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow, its partner firm in Singapore. He is currently a partner in the Hong Kong/China tax practice group. The move is expected to help expand the firm's pan-Asia-Pacific indirect tax and trade practice, the firm said in a statement. His old position will be filled by Will Marshall.

The decision comes just on the feels of the appointment of Edmund Leow, managing principal and present head of the Singapore tax and wealth management practice, as Judicial Commissioner in the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore. A JC is appointed by the President of Singapore on the advice of the Prime Minister and has the powers of a judge.

Baker & McKenzie's global tax and wealth management team comprises over 750 lawyers, economists and advisors across the company's 74 offices. The Hong Kong/China offices, led by Michael Olesnicky, has more than 35 tax and wealth management professionals.
