Apex Group Names New Chief Financial And Chief Business Officers

The Apex Group, a Bermuda-headquartered global financial services provider with a significant presence in London, makes senior hires to "evolve" and "mature" its business operations and drive organisational transformation.

The Apex Group has appointed Kimberly DeTrask (pictured) as chief financial officer (CFO) and Maxwell Johnston as chief business officer (CBO).

Effective 1 October 2025, DeTrask will be joining from State Street, where she served for over 12 years, most recently as treasurer and executive vice president. Before joining State Street, she spent more than 14 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, where she worked in the risk and policy unit, contributing to key regulatory and risk frameworks.

DeTrask has held many leadership roles in finance and treasury across London and Boston. Her previous role as CFO of State Street International highlights her experience in global financial operations, the firm said in a statement. Reporting directly to Peter Hughes, founder and CEO, DeTrask will join the group executive committee. Her remit will be to deliver a future-looking finance function.

“Her deep financial expertise and global perspective will be instrumental as we continue to scale and innovate across our business,” Hughes said.

In addition to DeTrask's appointment, Johnston, will also join the executive committee. He has served in several roles in his eight-year tenure at Apex Group, including driving M&A strategy, chief of staff and most recently as interim-CFO. Johnson's expertise in commercial strategy means that he is well placed to drive commercial alignment across the group’s regional functions and support enhancing client experience across each jurisdiction.

“Max’s appointment as chief business officer reflects our commitment to strengthening our commercial capabilities and local delivery to support the value we can offer our clients,” Hughes said. “His focus on driving transparency, alignment and enhanced processes through our regional operations will be instrumental as we continue to evolve and mature our business operations and drive organisational transformation.”
