Ameriprise rolls out new mutual-fund wrap family
New portfolio family meant to address investment goals while managing risk. Ameriprise Financial -- the 2005 spin-off of American Express Financial Advisors from American Express -- has launched a family of mutual-fund wraps called "Active Portfolios" intended to help address clients' accumulation and income investment goals while managing risk and limiting volatility.
More to come
"We built Active Portfolios to provide another solution to help clients meet their long-term goals," says Joe Sweeney, head of financial-planning products and services at Minneapolis-based Ameriprise. "Clients have the opportunity to leverage a product that has been developed to use sophisticated computer modeling that is driven by performance and quantitative analysis -- and not emotion -- for [making] investment decisions."
The Active Portfolios family, offered through Ameriprise's Premier Portfolio Services consulting program, are portfolios of mutual funds that are managed on a discretionary basis. The first two incarnations of the family, the Active Accumulation and Active Income portfolios, will be managed by RiverSource Investments. Ameriprise says more portfolios will be added in 2008.
Ameriprise supports a network of about 10,000 financial advisors and brokers on captive and independent platforms, including the broker-dealer, RIA and insurance brokerage platforms of Omaha-based Securities America. -FWR
