A Third Of UK Expats Live Down Under – NatWest

Nearly a third of the 4.6 million UK citizens abroad live in Australia, according to NatWest International Personal Banking.

The bank’s Quality of Life Index shows that 1.4 million UK expats live down under, followed by nearly 1 million living in Spain, 800,000 in the US, 630,000 in Canada and 225,000 in France.

The survey, produced in conjunction with the Centre of Future Studies, a think tank, reveals that 41 countries have a UK expat population of at least 10,000 and more than 100 countries have at least 1,000.

NatWest said that technology and management consultancy, manufacturing and financial services are the top three employment sectors for UK expats.

Beijing and Shanghai in China are home to 27,000 Britons between them. The highest ranked Asian city, however, is Singapore, which also has more millionaires than anywhere else in the world. Around a quarter of the jurisdiction’s population of 4.7 million are foreigners and 45,000 of them are from the UK.

If both temporary and permanent residents are included, the United Arab Emirates has around 100,000 UK expats, NatWest said.
