UK-based stockbroking firm Williams de Broe looks to be up for sale, according to a report in the Financial Times. ING, the Dutch financial services firm, which owns Williams de Broe has apparently, according to the report, received expressions of interest from several potential bidders. Williams de Broe had been involved in an accounting scandal since late 2004 which involved missing millions from its accounts. ING brought in Deloitte & Touche to investigate the accounts and later suspended John Millar, Williams de Broe's chief executive, and David Whistance, chief operating officer and former finance director. Richard Charnock, the former head of the firm’s private client business, was installed as chief executive last year. ING has owned Williams de Broe since 1998 when it bought Banque Bruxelles Lambert, the Belgian bank that had held a stake in the stockbroker since 1984.
