The latest moves and appointments in wealth management in the UK, the rest of Europe, the Middle East and other select locations.

Square Mile Investment Consulting and Research
City of London-based Square Mile Investment Consulting and Research (Square Mile) has appointed Maria Mealing as a business development director.

In this new senior role, Mealing (pictured) will sit within Square Mile’s eight-strong distribution team, managing client relationships in Central and Southern England whilst working with Square Mile’s senior executive team to develop and implement the firm’s growth strategy, the firm said in a statement.

Her appointment follows those of Charlie Horrell and Matthew Karslake who joined Square Mile as business development consultants in November 2022 and February 2023, respectively.

Mealing, who has more than 30 years’ industry experience, was most recently an associate director, UK strategic partnerships at Janus Henderson. In that role she was responsible for all UK strategic partnerships for the business, maintaining and developing relations with a wide range of clients, including discretionary fund managers, platforms, national IFAs and ratings and research firms. Prior to this, she was a sales manager for South East England for the firm, having joined Janus Henderson in 2001.

“Maria’s appointment is a further demonstration of our ongoing investment in talented professionals to provide the highest levels of client service. With her outstanding track record of partnering with a wide range of third parties, Maria will be a significant asset for the firm and we are excited to welcome her to the team,” Richard Romer-Lee, CEO of Square Mile, said.

Launched in January 2014, Square Mile is an independent investment consulting and research business focusing first and foremost on in-depth, qualitative fund research, and providing tailored support, investment and consultancy services for financial advisers and institutions.

Porter will become the lead consultant on several key relationships, helping to drive the growth of the ARC Investment Consulting business from London. Subject to regulatory approval, he will also join the board as a director of Asset Risk Consultants (UK) Limited, the firm said in a statement.

Porter is a highly talented investment professional who has more than 20 years of experience advising wealthy families, trustees and charities on the design and implementation of optimal investment strategies, manager due diligence and performance evaluation, the firm added.

Most recently, Porter was a managing director at AlTi Tiedemann Global, an investment advisory and multi-family office business. Before this he was head of PwC Investment, having previously worked at Deloitte and Andersen. Porter is also a former member of the judging panel for the annual Private Asset Managers (‘PAM’) awards in the UK.

"Marcus's arrival ensures we can meet the needs of our growing client base across the UK and beyond,” Andrew O’Neill, managing director, ARC (UK), said.
