UK Broking Group Acquires Southeast Asian Insurer's Indonesian Business

Howden Broking Group, the UK-headquartered financial services firm, has acquired the Indonesian business of Southeast Asian insurer Accette Insurance Group for an undisclosed sum.

Effective immediately, PT Accette Brokers Asuransi will be renamed PT Howden Insurance Brokers Indonesia and trade under the Howden Brand.

As part of the integration, Howden reorganised ranks within Accette Indonesia. Willy Ignatius, previously senior vice president at Aon Indonesia, will become president director to lead the Indonesian operation, Armand Wibisono, previously marketing director at JLT Indonesia, will become marketing director, while Dick Stuip, previously deputy country manager at PT Accette Brokers, is to become operations director.

Violetha Manurung, who used to be the assistant vice president for employee benefits at Marsh Indonesia, will join the company on 16 August as head of the employee benefits division.

"Indonesia is an important global market. The huge infrastructure development planned, combined with a growing affluent community and low levels of insurance penetration mean that it is a market of great opportunity," said Tim Coles, chief executive of Howden Broking Group.

The UK firm, a unit of insurance and reinsurance group Hyperion, acquired Accette's Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Philippines businesses in 2011.
