The third annual Estates Gazette Rich List of the richest people in property in the UK showed those at the top end of the property market got a lot richer last year. The 296 names on this year’s list had total wealth of £56 billion ($97.5 billion) and were cut off at £28 million. That compares with last year’s list of 333 members with a cut-off at £10 million and total wealth of £47 billion. Number one on the list was the Duke of Westminster, the richest property developer in the UK, who is also one of the top names on The Sunday Times Rich List. His fortune was valued at £6.6 billion. Second on the list were David & Simon Reuben, the metal dealers who have made a huge fortune in UK property. Their fortune is estimated at £2.5 billion. In bronze medal position was Earl Cadogan & family, whose fortune is estimated at £1.6 billion. The Earl and his family control the Cadogan estate, one of the richest pieces of land in London. And forth on the list were the Howard de Walden family, estimated to be worth £1.4 billion. Again, the de Walden family own much of one of the wealthiest areas in London. The list was compiled by Philip Beresford and Dominic Prince who produce the The Sunday Times Rich List.
