Tilney Bestinvest Recruits City Luminary To Head Its Board
The UK investment and financial planning group has appointed a new chairman, subject to approval from the Financial Conduct Authority.
The board of Tilney Bestinvest
has appointed Will Samuel, currently chairman of TSB Banking
Group, as its chairman.
Samuel has been a chairman at Ecclesiastical Insurance Group and
a non-executive director at Edinburgh Investment Trust. He has
also held non-executive roles at non-financial services firms
such as Howdens Joinery Group, cider company HP Bulmer Holdings
and motor company Inchcape.
He has worked for over 35 years in the City, including as
managing director of Schroders Investment Banking from
1986; following its sale to Citigroup, he was co-chief
executive of Schroder Salomon Smith Barney. He joined asset
management firm Lazard & Co as vice chairman in 2004, and was
senior advisor to the firm in 2011. Prior to his appointment as
chairman of TSB, Samuel was appointed senior advisor to the
Prudential Regulation Authority in 2012.
As chairman of TSB Banking Group, Samuel took the company through
an IPO after the de-merger from Lloyds Bank. At Tilney, he
replaces outgoing chairman Mike Covell.
“Will is highly respected in the City and brings a wealth of
experience that will prove invaluable as the business faces the
future with confidence,” said Covell.
Tilney is headquartered in London. It employs more than 1,000
staff in 30 offices across the UK.
