Insurer wants to tell "distribution partners" about charitable giving opps.. Charity begins not at home, but with estate planning strategies - or so says Sun Life Financial. The Canadian company's U.S. individual-insurance division has launched a campaign called Make Giving Go Further, intended to inform its distribution partners and clients about charitable giving opportunities.

"In addition to planning for estate, retirement and business needs, clients today are seeking advice on how to structure their plans to provide not only for their loved ones, but for the causes that they care about," says Michele Van Leer, general manager of Sun Life Individual Insurance.

Centerpiece

The campaign consists of tools and strategies for advisors like a continuing-education seminar, as well as a charitable giving benefit rider that comes with Sun Life's "Universal Protector" and "Universal LifeSM" products.

The rider - which Sun Life calls the "centerpiece of Sun Life's upgraded Universal Life product line" - features: Lifetime no-lapse guarantee feature for all issues, ages 18-85 Flexibility to customize the no-lapse guarantee Flexibility to pay no-lapse guarantee premiums in one payment to age 100 or lifetime 30-day late payment of premium provision to maintain the policy's death benefit guarantee  New "super-preferred" underwriting class for single-life sales designed to provide lower premiums for clients whose lifestyle and history offer a lower mortality risk
