Standard Life Investments Builds New Singapore Team, Names CEO

The investment firm has made a raft of appointments, including that of a Singapore-based chief executive.

UK-headquartered Standard Life Investments has appointed a new team and chief executive in Singapore.

The four-strong team in the new Singapore office comprises Choon Wah Wong, CEO for Standard Life Investments (Singapore) and head of Asia-Pacific real estate; Ted Roy, deputy fund manager; Jason Lam, associate investment director, Asia wholesale sales; and Tervinder Chal, head of Asia-Pacific real estate finance and operations.

Mark Baker, fund manager for emerging market debt, has moved from London to Hong Kong, the firm said in a statement yesterday. Baker helps manage Standard Life Investments’ EM debt portfolios, and will work on deepening the team’s research and coverage into Asian emerging markets. Baker reports to Richard House, head of emerging market fixed income, based in London.

Wong has 16 years of regional expertise in Asia-Pacific direct real estate investment management. He joins from Partners Group, where he was senior vice president, Singapore. He reports to Mike Hannigan, head of international real estate, based in Edinburgh.

Roy has relocated from Edinburgh to expand the company’s Asia-Pacific direct real estate investment capability. Roy will advise on property acquisitions and the outlook in the region and manage Asia-Pacific assets, reporting to Wong.

Chal will be responsible for developing and running the operating platform supporting the Asia-Pacific real estate business. Chal reports to Paolo Alonzi, global head of real estate finance and operations, based in Edinburgh.

Lam will relocate to Singapore from Hong Kong, to continue developing client relationships in Singapore and wholesale distribution opportunities across Asia. Lam reports to Virginia Devereux Wong, head of Asia wholesale business based in Hong Kong.

Standard Life Investments oversees $20.7 billion of assets in direct real estate, public listed real estate and real estate debt globally – including over 650 direct real estate assets in 15 countries worldwide.

The team is based at level 37, Ocean Financial Centre in Singapore’s central business district. Standard Life Investments is applying for a Capital Markets Services licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
