Standard Life Investments Builds New Singapore Team, Names CEO

The investment firm has made a raft of appointments, including that of a Singapore-based chief executive.
UK-headquartered Standard
Life Investments has appointed a new team and chief executive
in Singapore.
The four-strong team in the new Singapore office comprises Choon
Wah Wong, CEO for Standard Life Investments (Singapore) and
head of Asia-Pacific real estate; Ted Roy, deputy fund manager;
Jason Lam, associate investment director, Asia wholesale sales;
and Tervinder Chal, head of Asia-Pacific real estate finance and
operations.
Mark Baker, fund manager for emerging market debt, has moved from
London to Hong Kong, the firm said in a statement yesterday.
Baker helps manage Standard Life Investments’ EM debt
portfolios, and will work on deepening the team’s research and
coverage into Asian emerging markets. Baker reports to Richard
House, head of emerging market fixed income, based in London.
Wong has 16 years of regional expertise in Asia-Pacific direct
real estate investment management. He joins from Partners Group,
where he was senior vice president, Singapore. He reports to Mike
Hannigan, head of international real estate, based in
Edinburgh.
Roy has relocated from Edinburgh to expand the
company’s Asia-Pacific direct real estate investment capability.
Roy will advise on property acquisitions and the outlook in
the region and manage Asia-Pacific assets, reporting to Wong.
Chal will be responsible for developing and running the operating
platform supporting the Asia-Pacific real estate business. Chal
reports to Paolo Alonzi, global head of real estate finance and
operations, based in Edinburgh.
Lam will relocate to Singapore from Hong Kong, to continue
developing client relationships in Singapore and wholesale
distribution opportunities across Asia. Lam reports to Virginia
Devereux Wong, head of Asia wholesale business based in Hong
Kong.
Standard Life Investments oversees $20.7 billion of assets in
direct real estate, public listed real estate and real estate
debt globally – including over 650 direct real estate assets in
15 countries worldwide.
The team is based at level 37, Ocean Financial Centre in
Singapore’s central business district. Standard Life Investments
is applying for a Capital Markets Services licence from the
Monetary Authority of Singapore.
