The recently-appointed figure, who has worked in the financial industry for more than two decades, joined from HSBC.

Standard Chartered has appointed Sidney Wang as managing director, marketing head – Greater China, for its private banking business.

Wang, who has joined the lender in Hong Kong, reports to Peter Tung, regional head, private banking, Greater China and North Asia.

With more than 20 years’ banking experience spanning commercial banking, credit and risk management, and strategy, Wang has 15 years’ experience in private banking and wealth management.

Joining from HSBC, Wang was an international manager who worked in the UK and Europe, the Middle East, North and South America, and Greater China during his tenure. He has a track record of leading business growth and transformation. Notably, Wang led the launch of the Onshore China Private Banking business for HSBC. He helped to deliver an international coverage platform for Asia UHNW and family office clients.

Among recent developments, in November, Standard Chartered unveiled the grand opening of its first “priority private centre” in mainland China. Situated in Shanghai’s central business district, the centre caters to high net worth clients.

Late last year the bank reported its third-quarter financial results.
