Banif Banca Privada, the private banking business of Santander Central Hispano, said net profit came in at 49 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter, to €10.4 million ($13.2 million). The volume of clients' assets, boosted by Banif's increased customer portfolio and the progress of its integrated banking model, stood at €2.32 billion. Earlier this year, Banif won Euromoney’s award for best private bank in Spain. Banif is also in the running, along with at least another three banks, to buy the Spanish private bank, Banco Urquijo, which is owned by the Belgian financial services firm KBC and part of the European private banking KBL network.
