Singaporean Takes The Helm At Allianz In Munich

Allianz Investment Management has promoted Nikhil Srinivasan, currently the chief investment officer for Asia Pacific, to group CIO based in Munich.

Srinivasan is relocating to Europe from Singapore, where he held his present role since 2006. His promotion to a global position marks a milestone for the company and emphasises Asia's strong performance even amidst the global financial crisis. In fact, over the first three quarters of 2010, the group's Asian operations saw an impressive 45 per cent rise year-on-year.

In his new role, which takes effect in the first quarter of 2011, Srinivasan will be responsible for the firm's investment strategy across various asset classes. His old position as CIO and chief executive in Asia will be assumed by Bernd Gutting, previously head of group investment strategy for AIM in Munich.

"Investment income is a key part of our business and I think we need to make sure that will happen," Srinivasan said.

AIM handles all insurance assets of its parent firm, Allianz and manages €440 billion ($586 billion) in group shareholder and policyholder funds.
