Nordea Private Banking Reaches Milestone In Client Numbers

Nordea, the Scandinavian banking group, has hit a record number of 100,000 private banking clients in the Nordic region.

The milestone, which is the highest private client figure recorded by the firm in ten years, has been welcomed as “encouraging” for Nordea’s overall growth plan.

The number of Nordea private banking clients has doubled over the past ten years and the growing number of clients has been accompanied by a positive trend in customer satisfaction. In all Nordic markets the customer satisfaction index among private banking clients increased in the latest index in 2012, the firm said in a statement.

“A potential contributor to the growth in new customers for us is the expertise we offer related to complex business lifecycle situations such as intergenerational transfers of wealth and ownership in small and medium sized businesses,” said Torsten Østensen, head of private banking for Norway.

While the firm said that there is no typical private banking customer, it has seen a trend towards “younger business owners, both second-generation business heirs and new entrepreneurs,” said Østensen.

Nordea currently has €223.8 billion (around $289 billion) in assets under management, as at 31 March 2013.
