Manulife Financial Makes Senior Hire For US Business

Manulife Financial has named Craig Bromley as senior executive vice president and general manager of its US division, as well as president of John Hancock Financial Services.

As of 1 September, Bromley will take over from Jim Boyle, who is retiring after 20 years at the firm. Boyle will remain at John Hancock until the end of the fiscal year so as to “facilitate a smooth transition,” according to a statement.

In his new roles, Bromley will report to Manulife president and chief executive Donald Guloien. He will also join the executive committee.

Bromley is currently CEO and president of Manulife Japan, as well as its vice president and general manager. Earlier in his career, he led Manulife's merger with John Hancock Financial Services, which took place in 2004.

The firm said it has started a “global search” for internal and external candidates to head its Japanese operations.

Manulife Financial is a Canada-based financial services group with principal operations in Asia, Canada and the US.

The firm and its subsidiaries have $512 billion in funds under management, as at 31 March; it operates as Manulife Financial in Canada and Asia, and primarily as John Hancock in the US.
