Legal & General Appoints Chairman

Legal & General has brought in a chairman as its Mastertrust and workplace scheme member base continue to grow.
Dermot Courtier has been named as chairman of the Legal & General Mastertrust and Legal & General independent governance committee.
Courtier is head of group pensions at Kingfisher, as well as secretary to Kingfisher Pension Trustee – roles he will retain.
Launched in 2011, the Legal & General Mastertrust is a multi-employer scheme with £2.9 billion in assets under management and nearly 600,000 members.
The Legal & General IGC, meanwhile, oversees the workplace pension schemes operated by Legal & General, which manages £16.8 billion in such schemes.
“We are seeing a strong trend for DC schemes to opt for bundled solutions, where they can outsource administration and member communications and as well as governance to a greater or lesser extent,” said Emma Douglas, head of DC at Legal & General Investment Management.
Courtier has also held senior pension roles at Hachette Livre Group, Towers Perrin HR Services (now Willis Towers Watson) and Royal Mail Group.
